Irene’s Resort & Spa

It is always inspiring to witness a project evolve. To see an existing concept grow into something even more refined and complete. For Irene’s Resort & Spa, located in the serene area of Pozar Baths in Northern Greece, our team at PLINTHOS Architects was commissioned to design the extension of the resort, consisting of 10 new bungalow suites and the aesthetic upgrade of the surrounding landscape.

This four-star mountain resort is set within one of Greece’s most beloved winter destinations. Our architectural approach aimed to reflect the character and atmosphere of the region by using a palette of natural wood, soft whites, and clean lines. These materials create a sense of warmth, simplicity, and timeless elegance.

Inspired by Scandinavian mountain architecture, the new bungalow units are single-storey structures with internal lofts, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding natural landscape. The buildings are designed to blend harmoniously with the existing hotel complex. As a result it forms a cohesive architectural ensemble that balances modern design with traditional comfort.

Given the region’s climatic conditions, a pitched roof was required. Instead of viewing this as a constraint, we turned it into a defining architectural gesture. The roofs adopt a distinct triangular silhouette, reminiscent of the archetypal form of a “house”. We created a nostalgic yet contemporary reference that enriches the resort’s visual identity.

The landscape design plays a unifying role, connecting all facilities into one continuous spatial experience. A new swimming pool was introduced alongside the existing one, enhancing the guest’s leisure experience with an expanded sense of openness and luxury. Additionally, a new bar area, outdoor seating zones, and green spaces were carefully designed to encourage relaxation and social interaction. Water features and subtle landscaping gestures celebrate the element of water, paying tribute to the famous Pozar thermal springs that define the area.

The Irene’s Resort & Spa Extension reflects our studio’s commitment to creating hospitality architecture that merges context, comfort, and contemporary aesthetics. The goal was to deliver spaces that feel both authentic and inspiring.
