AMAYA VILLAS

Situated near the crystalline shores of Plaka in Naxos, AMAYA VILLAS represents a sophisticated architectural intervention within the Cycladic landscape. The project consists of two modern summer residences that emerge as a serene “oasis” amidst a vast, flat agricultural expanse. The name “Amaya” means “night rain” in Japanese. It captures the essence of the concept: a symbol of beauty, completion, and the refreshing serenity that arrives in an arid terrain.

The volumetric strategy of the project is defined by a clear geometric hierarchy. The ground floor is composed of two distinct volumes that anchor the houses to the site, while a third volume on the upper level acts as a physical and visual joint, unifying the composition. To emphasize this “grounded” philosophy, the facade of the lower volumes features a bespoke stucco texture with characteristic vertical striations, finished in warm, earthy tones. In contrast, the upper floor is rendered in a pristine white stucco, a strategic choice that lightens the overall optical mass and allows the architecture to dissolve into the bright Greek sky.

The transition between indoor and outdoor living is seamless, reflecting the core of Mediterranean summer life. The landscape design integrates local flora with curated tropical details, creating a lush environment that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding fields. A singular palm tree, positioned as a focal point between the residences, stands as a living totem of the project’s identity. The outdoor areas are meticulously programmed for high-end hospitality, featuring two modern swimming pools, integrated jacuzzi facilities, and terrace lounges that offer panoramic views of the Naxian horizon. Dedicated zones for outdoor dining and professional-grade barbeque facilities ensure that the “aura” of the Aegean Sea is felt in every corner of the plot.

At PLINTHOS Architects, our aim was to design a villa complex that harmonizes modern architectural standards with the raw beauty of the Naxian environment. Through the use of tactile materials, Mediterranean planting, and a deep respect for the site’s topography, AMAYA VILLAS offers its guests a unique vacation experience. A sanctuary of relaxation where contemporary luxury meets the timeless serenity of the Cyclades.
